GTA 6 animals in real life

Of the 42 animals found for GTA 6 so far, 31 are native to Florida, 3 are invasive there, 5 were brought in by people, and 9 are domestic. Each card below names the real species behind the game animal, where it lives in Florida, and a free-licence photo credited to its author.

Checked against Rockstar's material on October 28, 2026 by Lorenzo Bruno. GTA 6 is out November 19, 2026.

Leonida is Rockstar's version of Florida, so the real species are matched against Florida's wildlife. The match starts from GTABase's species name and is corrected where that name is wrong for Florida; each correction is shown on its card. The game animal's own status, confirmed or unverified, is a separate question: see how animals are confirmed.

Native to Florida 31

Species that live wild in Florida on their own: the wetlands, woods and coast Leonida is drawn from.

Real-life animals: questions

Are the animals in GTA 6 real Florida species?

Mostly. Of the 42 animals found so far, 31 are native to Florida and 3 are invasive there. The rest are species people brought in, or pets and farm animals.

Which GTA 6 animals are not native to Florida?

Leaving out pets and farm animals: Nine-banded armadillo, Wild pig (feral hog), Cane toad, Green iguana, Brown rat, Rhesus macaque, Rock pigeon, Whooping crane.

Is the crane in GTA 6 a whooping crane or a sandhill crane?

GTABase names the whooping crane but gives Grus canadensis, the scientific name of the sandhill crane (now Antigone canadensis). Rockstar's preview screenshot shows a white crane with a red crown, so we use the whooping crane, Grus americana. Florida's common wild crane is the sandhill crane.

Where do the real animal photos on this page come from?

From Wikimedia Commons, under free licences only. Each photo names its author and licence and links to its Commons page.
