Yes, there is hunting in GTA 6: Rockstar's own page says Mount Kalaga "offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails", and its official screenshots show men with rifles in the Kalaga woods and a dead alligator on a Grassrivers airboat. What Rockstar has not shown is how hunting plays: no weapon list, no pelts menu, no prices, no licence, no map of hunting grounds. All of that is not known until the game comes out on 19 November 2026.

The reading of Mount Kalaga as hunting country, the hunters as locals and the park as a place to hide a Legendary animal are GameSift's, from his October 3, 2026 breakdown of the region.
This guide puts the Rockstar material in one place, image by image, then the readings around it, each with the name of whoever made it. The starting point is GameSift's breakdown of Mount Kalaga, whose hunting chapter runs from 5:42 to 7:36 in the video below. GameSift says the whole video uses only Rockstar's trailers, screenshots, site and Game Informer interviews, and no leaks. We checked every image he describes against Rockstar's own files on 29 October 2026.
Can you hunt in GTA 6?
Rockstar says so in plain words. Its Mount Kalaga panel calls the region "a national landmark up against the state's northern border" and lists hunting first among what it offers. That is the only place Rockstar uses the word. Nothing on the page says how it works.
The second piece of proof comes from Game Informer's cover story, written after a Rockstar preview: you can "track certain animals categorized as Rare, Discoverable, and Legendary, though the identities of these harder-to-find creatures are being kept secret." Tracking is not the same as hunting, and Game Informer does not say if a tracked animal is meant to be shot, photographed or both.
The third piece is a picture. Rockstar captions this screenshot "Two people holding rifles walking side by side through the woods of Mount Kalaga National Park." One man wears an orange vest and sunglasses, the older one camo overalls, a flag cap and a rifle with a scope. In the tall grass at the bottom of the frame, an antlered deer lies on its side. GameSift says the buck "is already down". The frame does not show a shot being fired, so that is the most natural reading rather than something Rockstar states. The deer is one of the animals with its own page on this site.
Where can you hunt in GTA 6?
Two regions have hunting imagery from Rockstar so far. Mount Kalaga, the forested north, is the one Rockstar names. Grassrivers, the swamp Rockstar describes as a place where "the gators may be the most famous attraction", has the alligator shots further down this page.
Beyond those two, nothing. Rockstar has not published a map of hunting areas, and no official image shows hunting on the Leonida Keys, in Vice City or around Port Gellhorn. Paul MacPherson's list of the northern countryside for Game Informer mentions ATV trails, farms, ranches and bass fishing in a cypress lake, but not hunting. Exact spots are not known until 19 November 2026.
Game Informer's eighth exclusive screenshot is the closest thing to a hunting scene with a playable character in it. A man in a black cap sits on an ATV seen from behind, a scoped rifle with a red and black mottled stock slung across his back, a digital display on the handlebars. Ahead of him, across a shallow rocky stream, two deer have stopped, one of them drinking. GameSift calls them "a buck and a doe".
The rider's face is not visible. GameSift says it is Jason; so does TGG. The image does not name him, and it does not show the rifle in use. It does show three things a hunting mode would need: a long gun with a scope, a vehicle to reach the woods, and deer that let you get close.
Who is hunting in Mount Kalaga?
GameSift's answer is "everyone". In his words: "Out here, everyone is hunting something. The locals hunt deer. Jason hunts deer. And the cougar hunts the deer, too." He reads the two armed men as locals, "not tourists who came for the view", for whom this is "just a normal day". Rockstar does not say who they are.
The only ones not hunting are the deer, and they're having a very bad day.
GameSift, Mount Kalaga breakdown, 7:36
The cougar is Rockstar's own. Its caption reads "A cougar stalks a herd of deer drinking from a stream in Mount Kalaga National Park." The screenshot shows the cat low in the water in the foreground, with four deer along the bank behind it, none of them looking its way.
That image matters for hunting in two ways. It shows animals reacting to each other, not standing still for the player, which the wildlife system guide goes into. And it shows a predator in the same woods as the hunters. GameSift reads the cat as the Florida panther, put back in the north where panthers once lived; that is his reading, and Rockstar only says cougar. The cougar page holds every sighting.

Deer turn up outside Kalaga too. Game Informer's seventh screenshot is a wetland at sunrise with a stag wading in the reeds, a white crane with a red crown and a pink bird with a spoon-shaped bill, plus a large reptile on the left bank and dozens of birds in the air.
No hunter is in that frame and the region is not named, so it says nothing about where you may shoot. It does show how many species share one patch of water: the spoonbill and the crane are cards on our birds page, and TGG reads the reptile on the bank as an alligator, which leads to the swamp.
Can you hunt alligators in GTA 6?
Rockstar has shown people shooting at them. A top-down screenshot of the Grassrivers carries this caption: "A topdown view of two people in an airboat surrounded by alligators in the Grassrivers. One holds a gun aiming at the alligator closest to him." In the image itself the gators are dark shapes among the lily pads, hard to pick out at first.
A second Rockstar screenshot goes further. Its caption reads "Three people covered in mud pose on an airboat in the Grassrivers with a dead alligator and wildcat. One has an automatic weapon leaning against his leg, another is holding a rifle." On the frame, a large alligator lies across the deck under one man's bare foot, and a spotted, short-tailed cat lies on the seat behind them.
Rockstar writes "wildcat", not a species. GTABase identifies it as a bobcat, which is why it sits as a card on our mammals page and not on a page of its own. The pose is a trophy photo: two guns, a kill on the deck, the crew grinning at the camera.
What none of this proves is that alligator hunting is a player activity with rewards. These are staged scenes with characters Rockstar does not name. They do show that alligators in GTA 6 can end up dead on a boat, next to the people holding the guns. Everything else about them is on the alligator page, including the Trailer 1 gator that walks into a store.
A third image, Game Informer's eleventh screenshot, shows a stilt camp on the swamp at night: two men on a wooden dock, one holding a long gun, an airboat moored on the left, barrels and tyres on the planks, and three alligators in the water right in front.
TGG says the man "looks like he's shooting an alligator". The gun is held, the frame shows no muzzle flash, and the image names no region; TGG places the camp in the Grassrivers. Taken together, Rockstar's three swamp images all put guns and gators in the same shot. That is a pattern, not a mechanic.
Are there legendary animals in GTA 6?
Yes, by name. Game Informer's preview says some animals can be tracked and are sorted into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary. That is the whole of the official information. Rockstar is keeping the identities of these animals secret, and no source says how many there are, where they live, or what you get for finding one.
GameSift makes one guess about where to look: "if you were going to hide a legendary animal somewhere, a national park built around hunting is a pretty good place to start. That's my read." He says himself that Rockstar has not named any of them. TGG, looking at the same Game Informer line, assumes that, as in Red Dead Redemption 2, hunting or photographing the legendary animals will be needed for 100% completion. That is an assumption too: Game Informer says nothing about completion, and nothing about tracking them with a rifle rather than a camera.
The best hint of how varied Kalaga's animals are comes from a screenshot that has nothing to do with hunting. Rockstar captions it "Four people riding dirt bikes through the mud in Mount Kalaga National Park. An ATV jumps behind them." GameSift points out the raccoon running for its life at the edge of the mud. Across the Kalaga material he counts a cougar, a fox, a raccoon and "a lot of nervous deer". Which of the more than 170 species could be Legendary is not known until 19 November 2026. Our animal checklist will add them when they are found.
Does hunting make money in GTA 6?
Yes, by Rockstar's account. TGG watched Rob Nelson play the game at Rockstar North in July 2026 and asked what hunting is for. As TGG reports it, Nelson answered: "Hunting is for money, and it's through a character that knows Jason." That backs what GTABase had claimed without a source. Prices, buyers and that character are not known until 19 November 2026. Two more ideas are Berserker's.
Berserker's economy theory. Berserker argues that Leonida "doesn't need hunting for basic survival", unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, so "the more likely purpose is an economic system where vendors can buy hunted animals legally or illegally through fences." No image shows a hunted animal being sold.
Berserker's wildlife agency reading. He reads a social post from an account called "OfficialPOACH" as a wildlife agency, "GTA's version of Florida fish and wildlife", and wonders if players could hunt illegally or side with it. Both ideas are his.
Game Informer's "new hair and fur systems for coats and pelts" is about rendering fur, not trading skins. For dogs that track people, see the police dogs guide.

| Hunting is for money, through a character who knows Jason | Said at a preview | Rob Nelson, Rockstar, as TGG reports it |
| Fishing is catch-and-release | Said at a preview | Rob Nelson, Rockstar, as TGG reports it |
The fishing line sits in the table because it is often quoted next to hunting. Rockstar has shown Jason with a rod on a boat beside Cal, but the caption says nothing about catches. Nelson told TGG that you cannot take the fish with you, so it is catch and release, and that fishing is for fun, story, collectibles and challenges rather than money. The GTA 6 fishing guide covers the rest.
What stays unknown until November 19?
A long list, and it is better to say so than to fill it with Red Dead Redemption 2. Not known until 19 November 2026:
- Which weapons hunt. Rifles with scopes are on screen. Whether there is a dedicated hunting rifle, a bow or special ammunition is not.
- Pelts and carcasses. If anything can be skinned, carried or sold.
- Prices. No figure for any animal exists from any source.
- Licences and seasons. Nothing official, and the wildlife agency idea is Berserker's.
- Legendary identities. Rockstar is keeping them secret.
- Protected species. Whether shooting a flamingo or a manatee carries a penalty.
Every animal Rockstar has shown so far, hunted or not, is listed on the all animals page, with the trailer timestamps on every animal in the trailers and the proof rules on our about page. We will update this guide with real hunting spots and rewards once the game is out.
Hunting: questions
- Is hunting confirmed in GTA 6?
Yes. Rockstar's Only in Leonida page says Mount Kalaga "offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails", and an official screenshot shows two people with rifles in the Kalaga woods. How hunting works, as of 29 October 2026, is not known until the game launches on 19 November 2026.
- Which animals can you hunt in GTA 6?
No official list exists. Rockstar's screenshots show armed people near deer in Mount Kalaga and a dead alligator and a wildcat on a Grassrivers airboat. Which species are huntable, and which are protected, is not known until 19 November 2026.
- What are legendary animals in GTA 6?
Game Informer reports that certain animals can be tracked and are sorted into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary, and that Rockstar keeps their identities secret. No legendary animal has been named. GameSift guesses one could be hidden in Mount Kalaga; that is his reading.
- Can you shoot alligators in GTA 6?
Rockstar's Grassrivers screenshots show a man aiming a gun at an alligator from an airboat and three people posing with a dead alligator. Whether alligator hunting is a rewarded activity is not known until 19 November 2026.
- Can you sell animal pelts in GTA 6?
Pelts are not mentioned anywhere. Rockstar's Rob Nelson told TGG at a July 2026 preview that hunting is for money, but not how you are paid. Game Informer mentions new hair and fur systems for coats and pelts, which is about how fur looks. Berserker speculates hunted animals could be sold through fences.
- What gun do you use for hunting in GTA 6?
Rockstar has not named one. Its Kalaga screenshot shows rifles, one with a scope, and a Game Informer screenshot shows an ATV rider with a scoped rifle with a camo stock. Any dedicated hunting weapon is not known until 19 November 2026.
