In real life

Dogs also walk through two of Game Informer's preview screenshots, on a crowded Vice City beach and with a jogger on a footbridge in Mount Kalaga, and one trots beside a cyclist in Rockstar's Leonida Keys screenshot.

Dogs react to you, and police have them. In Edge's account of Rob Nelson's demo, a man unclips his dog's leash when Jason stares at him too long and the dog chases Jason off, and after a crash a police canine unit's Alsatian pins Jason to the ground while the Rockstar staff watching urge Nelson not to shoot it. One of Edge's Rockstar screenshots also shows a dog lying in a crowded compound.

Rockstar has never named a breed. Edge's Alsatian makes the German Shepherd the one breed backed by a preview; the other five GTABase lists stay unverified.
